The easiest way to get to Kamikochi Bus Terminal 上高地バスターミナル from Matsumoto Bus Terminal 松本バスターミナル is via the direct bus "National Park Liner ナショナルパークライナー".

Should you be unable to secure your reservations in time, you can still take the local buses along the Shinshimashima - Kamikochi Line 新島々-上高地線 to reach your destination.

Unfortunately, you will need to transfer buses at various stations, which can differ depending on what time you will arrive.

The direct bus operates from Apr 17 (Wed) to Nov 15 (Fri).

For the local buses, the timings are more regular and, of course, you do not need to make any reservation.

You will need to board the JR train from Matsumoto Station 松本駅 to Shinshimashima Station 新島々駅.

These bus routes operate from Apr 17 (Wed) to Nov 15 (Fri).

For the local buses, they all start from Shinshimashima Station 新島々駅, 13 stops away from Matsumoto Station 松本駅 by JR train.

Then, depending which timing you get on the bus, it may be a direct bus and you do not have to transfer to the Kamikochi Shuttle Bus 上高地シャトルバス at Sawando Bus Terminal さわんどバスターミナル.

Note that even if it is a direct bus, the bus will stop at Sawando Bus Terminal さわんどバスターミナル and continue on to Kamikochi Bus Terminal 上高地バスターミナル.

Sawando Bus Terminal さわんどバスターミナル is where people who come by car can park their cars and board the bus from. It would definitely be a wiser choice to aim for the direct bus timings instead of transferring at Sawando Bus Terminal さわんどバスターミナル and end up giving up your seat.

From Hirayu Onsen 平湯温泉, you will take the bus that starts from Matsumoto Bus Terminal 松本バスターミナル and stops over at Hirayu Onsen 平湯温泉 to get to Takayama Nohi Bus Terminal 高山濃飛バスセンター.

Note that reservation is needed.

Note that there is only 1 trip that goes to Shinhotaka Ropeway 新穂高ロープウェイ from Matsumoto Bus Terminal 松本バスターミナル.

However, this bus route does not continue on to Takayama Nohi Bus Terminal 高山濃飛バスセンター.

Also note that Shinhotaka Ropeway 新穂高ロープウェイ operates until 4pm, so by the time this direct bus arrives, the ropeway would not be in service.

There is no direct route to the Matsumoto Bus Terminal 松本バスターミナル.

One will need to take the bus from Kamikochi Bus Terminal 上高地バスターミナル to Shinshimashima Station 新島々駅, then board the JR train from Shinshimashima Station 新島々駅 to Matsumoto Station 松本駅.

There are no direct buses from Kamikochi 上高地 to Matsumoto City 松本市, unlike the opposite route which has the direct bus National Park Liner ナショナルパークライナー.

However, things are more straightforward using the local buses. All local buses will get to Shinshimashima Station 新島々駅 without any transfers.

You can then transfer to a JR train to Matsumoto Station 松本駅 from Shinshimashima Station 新島々駅.
