How to go to Mount Iwaki 岩木山
The most common way to get to Mount Iwaki 岩木山 is to hike up from the south via Dake Trail 嶽コース or Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース.
From the south, take the Kareki Daira Line 枯木平線 and alight at either Dake Onsen Bus Stop 岳温泉バス停 for the Dake Trail 嶽コース or Iwakiyama Shrine Bus Stop 岩木山神社前バス停 for the Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース.
From the east, one can also hike up the Yayoi Trail 弥生コース or Shin Yayoi Trail 弥生コース. However, it is pretty hard to access the trailhead without a car for these trails.

Hiking Trails to Mount Iwaki 岩木山
There are 6 main trails to hike up Mount Iwaki 岩木山.
- Dake Trail 嶽コース (reachable by public transport)
- Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース (reachable by public transport)
- Yayoi Trail 弥生コース
- Shin Yayoi Trail 弥生コース
- Akakura Trail 赤倉コース
- Nagadai Trail 長平コース
We would recommend ascending and descending Mount Iwaki 岩木山 from either combinations of Dake Trail 嶽コース, Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース and Yayoi Trail 弥生コース.
The trailheads of these 3 trails are not only accessible by public transport, but also have onsens near them. After a laborous hike up Mount Iwaki 岩木山, what better way to treat yourself while recovering from your hike than getting in an onsen?
We will only cover the routes for Dake Trail 嶽コース and Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース since they are the only ones accessible by public transport.
Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース starts from Iwakiyama Shrine Bus Stop 岩木山神社前バス停 from the southeast direction.
Take the Kareki Daira Line 枯木平線 from Hirosaki Bus Terminal 弘前バスターミナル.
The Kareki Daira Line 枯木平線 operates from Apr 01, 2024 (Mon) to Nov 30, 2024 (Sat).
Note that Dake Onsen Bus Stop 岳温泉バス停 is not the terminal stop.

Dake Trail 嶽コース starts from the Dake Onsen Bus Stop 岳温泉バス停 from the south.
You can get there via the Kareki Daira Line 枯木平線.
This is the same bus route that will take you to Iwakiyama Shrine Bus Stop 岩木山神社前バス停 for the Hyakuzawa Trail 百沢コース as mentioned above.
The Dake Onsen Bus Stop 岳温泉バス停 is after Iwakiyama Shrine Bus Stop 岩木山神社前バス停.

If you don't want to climb the entirety of the Dake Trail 嶽コース, you can take the Iwaki Skyline Shuttle Bus 岩木スカイラインシャトルバス up to Iwaki Skyline Base Station 岩木スカイラインターミナル, and continue the latter part of the Dake Trail 嶽コース to summit Mount Iwaki 岩木山.
This is the easiest trail among all the trails mentioned in this article.
Of course, you can also take the Iwaki Skyline 岩木スカイライン ropeway and shorten your climb further.
The Iwaki Skyline Shuttle Bus 岩木スカイラインシャトルバス starts from Dake Onsen Bus Stop 岳温泉バス停. You can take the Kareki Daira Line 枯木平線 to get to Dake Onsen Bus Stop 岳温泉バス停 as mentioned right above.

You can get back to Hirosaki Station 弘前駅, which is a short walk to Hirosaki Bus Terminal 弘前バスターミナル by taking the Kareki Daira Line (Reverse) 枯木平線 (逆) from Iwakiyama Shrine Bus Stop 岩木山神社前バス停.
