There are 3 main trails to hike up Mount Kashimayari 鹿島槍ヶ岳.
- Kashiwara Shindo Trail 柏原新道コース
- Akaiwa Ridge Trail 赤岩尾根コース
- Goryu Kashimayari Trail 五竜鹿島槍縦走コース
The initial two routes focus exclusively on Mount Kashimayari 鹿島槍ヶ岳, while the last one takes you to another of Japan's celebrated 100 peaks, Mount Goryu 五竜岳, and across one of Japan's grand arêtes, the Hachimine Kiretto 八峰キレット.
Got more energy to burn? The Ushiro Tateyama Trail 後立山連峰縦走ルート offers an adventure northward to Mount Shirouma 白馬岳, yet another peak of Japan's 100 famous mountains, while crossing through yet another imposing knife-edge ridge, the Kaerazu Kiretto 不帰キレット.
The most popular entry point into the Hida Mountain Range 飛騨山脈 is via Ogizawa 扇沢.
Ogizawa’s 扇沢 popularity can be attributed to its ease of access, especially by the large population living in Tokyo.
The various modes of transportation to reach Ogizawa 扇沢 from various places, as well as from Ogizawa 扇沢 to the various mountains, are frequent and reliable.

Shinano-Omachi 信濃大町 is a small town located right before the entrance to the Japanese Northern Alps 北アルプス. Visitors from Tokyo or other big cities may choose to spend a night here before they start their adventure the next day.
This is a local bus and no reservation is needed.

Otanibara 大谷原 and the Akaiwa Ridge Trail 赤岩尾根コース is only accessible by car.
The alternative is to take a transportation to Kashima Bus Stop 鹿島バス停 which is about a 50 minutes walk from the trailhead of Akaiwa Ridge Trail 赤岩尾根コース.
Hakuba Goryu Escal Plaza 白馬五竜エスカルプラザ is the trailhead for the Goryu Kashimayari Trail 五竜鹿島槍縦走コース.
There is a shuttle bus provided by the Hakuba Goryu Tourism Board 白馬五竜観光協会 departing from Kamishiro Station 神城駅. This free shuttle bus also makes the only stop at Hakuba Goryu Bus Stop 白馬五竜バス停, connecting passengers arriving via direct buses from other cities.

Alternatively, you can walk from Kamishiro Station 神城駅 to Hakuba Goryu Escal Plaza 白馬五竜エスカルプラザ. It takes about 30 minutes.
However, the frequency of the shuttle bus is about 30 minutes, so in the event you miss the bus, there is not much difference in waiting versus walking.

The Akaiwa Ridge Trail 赤岩尾根コース takes you back to Otanibara 大谷原, which is only accessible by car.
The closest public transport you can take is about a 50 minutes walk from Otanibara 大谷原 at the bus stop Kashima Bus Stop 鹿島バス停.
Please take note, however, that you need to make a reservation to have the bus go to Kashima Bus Stop 鹿島バス停 to pick you up.
