How to go to Mount Tateshina 蓼科山
Mount Tateshina 蓼科山, standing at an elevation of 2,530 meters (8,301 feet), is one of the prominent mountains in the Chuubu region, located in Nagano Prefecture 長野県.
The peak is most commonly accessed via the Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ. The general travel plan by public transport starts from Chino Station 茅野駅.
Hiking Trails to Mount Tateshina 蓼科山
Here are 3 ways you can ascend Mount Tateshina 蓼科山 depending on your route
- Via the Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ
- From Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝, also known as Menogami Teahouse Trailhead 女乃神茶屋登山口
- From Shirakaba Highlands 白樺高原
At Chino Station 茅野駅, board the bus from Chino Station West Exit Platform 2 (⻄⼝2番乗場).
The bus will bring you towards the different locations from which you can ascend Mount Tateshina 蓼科山.
This route using the ropeway is widely recognized as the most straightforward and popular path for ascending Mount Tateshina 蓼科山.
In addition to attracting seasoned mountain climbers, this path also entices tourists who are eager to experience the climb.
Please be advised that each ascent may be fairly populated due to the route's popularity, which can result in crowded conditions.

Alternatively, you can take the official but tougher climbing route via Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝ as you ascend the full Mount Tateshina 蓼科山 without nothing but your own legs.
The route from Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝ will be the most direct route up Mount Tateshina 蓼科山. You will be climbing the about 2,500 feet / 760m.
You will also be taking the bus route Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway Line (Ascend) 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ線 (上り) as shown above to reach this stop. Refer to the schedule for Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway Line (Ascend) 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ線 (上り).
But take note!
There is only 1 bus trip arriving at Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝ each day.
And it happens only on the weekends and public holidays!
Be sure not to miss it!
One can go back to take the Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ to descend Mount Tateshina 蓼科山. After all, it can put quite a lot pressure to the knees for some of us to descend via the Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝.
The easier way out will be to go back down to Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ.
You can then take the bus back to Chino Station 茅野駅. The name of the bus route is Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway Line (Descend) 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ線 (下り), which is the same bus route if you were to descend from Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝.
This is the bus route from Kurumayama Highlands 車山高原, via the bottom station of the Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ, to Chino Station 茅野駅.

You can leave Mount Tateshina 蓼科山 by descending towards the south side. This will bring you to Menogami Teahouse Trailhead 女乃神茶屋登山口, also known as Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝.
You can then take the Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway Line (Descend) 北八ヶ岳ロープウェイ線 (下り), the timetable of which shown above, to descend back to Chino Station 茅野駅.

But take note!
There is only 1 bus trip going from Mount Tateshina Trailhead 蓼科⼭登⼭⼝ to Chino Station 茅野駅 in the late afternoon.
And it is available only during the weekends and public holidays!
