How to go to Mount Shirouma 白馬岳
Mount Shirouma 白馬岳, also known as Hakuba-dake, is a prominent peak in the Hida Mountain Range 飛騨山脈, or what is more commonly know as the Japanese Northern Alps 北アルプス. It towers at an impressive altitude of 9,620 feet / 2,932m. Located mainly within the Nagano Prefecture 長野県, this mountain is celebrated for its breathtaking, snow-draped landscapes, which have earned it the name ‘White Horse’.
For clarity, both names – Shirouma-dake and Hakuba-dake – refer to the same majestic peak, so don't be confused if you come across either term.
The peak of Mount Shirouma 白馬岳 is most commonly accessed from Sarukura 猿倉, where the Sarukura Sou 猿倉荘 is located. The general travel plan by public transport starts from Hakuba Station 白馬駅 or Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal 白馬八方バスターミナル.

Hiking Trails to Mount Shirouma 白馬岳
Mount Shirouma 白馬岳 offers a range of ascent routes, each presenting its own set of challenges. Completing both the ascent and descent within a single day is typically quite demanding. It is highly recommended to ascend and descend on separate days.
We personally recommend going on the Hakuba Sansan Trail 白馬三山コース. It covers the peaks of Mount Shakushi-dake 杓子岳 and Mount Yariga-dake 鑓ヶ岳, which, together with Mount Shirouma 白馬岳, form the Hakuba Sansan 白馬三山.
It is best enjoyed by staying over 2 days (take route 2).
If you can only spend 1 night on the mountain top, consider route 3, where you will camp over at Sarukura Sou 猿倉荘 at the trailhead of the climb. This arrangement should make for a good weekend trip. Note the last bus to Sarukura Sou 猿倉荘 is in the late afternoon. Refer to Sarukura Line 猿倉線 below.
If you are starting from Sarukura 猿倉, you can take the Sarukura Line 猿倉線 from Hakuba Station 白馬駅 or Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal 白馬八方バスターミナル to Sarukura 猿倉.

Just take the JR train to reach Hakuba Station 白馬駅. Once you are there, board the Sarukura Line 猿倉線, whose schedule is shown above, to reach your destination at the terminal stop.
Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal 白馬八方バスターミナル can be accessed from Shinjuku Bus Terminal 新宿バスターミナル or Nagano Station 長野駅.

The Sarukura Line 猿倉線 starts from Hakuba Station 白馬駅, passes through Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal 白馬八方バスターミナル, and arrives at Sarukura 猿倉.
The Sarukura Line (Ascend) 猿倉線 (上り) runs everyday from Jul 13 (Sat) to Aug 25 (Sun), and only on weekends and public holidays from Aug 31 (Sat) to Sep 23 (Mon).

If you are starting from Tsugaike Ropeway Nature Garden Station 栂池ロープウェイ自然園駅, you can take buses from Hakuba Station 白馬駅 or Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal 白馬八方バスターミナル to Tsugaike Kogen Bus Stop 栂池高原バス停, from which you can take the Gondola and Ropeway up to Tsugaike Nature Garden 栂池自然園.
Similar to getting to Sarukura 猿倉, you need to first get to Hakuba Station 白馬駅 or Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal 白馬八方バスターミナル, then transfer to the Tsugaike Line 栂池線.
