Hiking Trails to Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳

There are 3 main trails we would recommend to hike up Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳.

  1. Oodarumi Pass Trail 大弛峠コース
  2. Jumonji Pass Trail 十文字峠コース
  3. Nishizawa Valley Trail 西沢渓谷コース

Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳 stands as a majestic peak right at the border of 3 prefectures, Yamanashi Prefecture 山梨県, Saitama Prefecture 埼玉県 and Nagano Prefecture 長野県. These 3 prefectures are formerly known as the Ko State 甲州, the Bu State 武州 and Shin State 信州, hence the name "Kobushi".

Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳 offers hikers and climbers an enticing challenge with its elevation of over 2,400 meters. Renowned for its panoramic views that span the Japanese Southern Alps 南アルプス, Mount Fuji 富士山, and the Okuchichibu Mountains 奥秩父山地, it attracts nature enthusiasts and adventurers seeking to immerse themselves in Japan's stunning natural beauty.

The 2 main start points are Enzan Station 塩山駅 or Shinano-Kawakami Station 信濃川上駅. from these convenient JR train stations, you can access the trailheads of the 3 main trails of Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳.

You can get to Oodarumi Pass 大弛峠 for a relatively relaxing hike up Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳, or to Nishizawa Valley Trailhead 西沢渓谷入口 for, in my humble opinion, a much much more challenging one.

Oodarumi Pass 大弛峠 has an elevation of 7,743 feet / 2,360m, which puts it very close in terms of altitude, to Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳. Indeed, this would be the easiest route to get to Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳 and Mount Kinpu 金峰山.

With an elevation of 7,743 feet / 2,360m, Oodarumi Pass 大弛峠 almost matches the altitude of Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳, making it the most accessible route for those aiming to reach both Mount Kobushi 甲武信ヶ岳 or Mount Kinpu 金峰山.

The proximity of Oodarumi Pass 大弛峠 in elevation not only facilitates a smoother transition to these peaks but also positions Oodarumi Pass 大弛峠 as a strategic starting point for climbers and hikers looking to explore these prominent mountains.
